An out-of-tune guitar makes everything sound wrong, even when you're playing it right. Tuning takes under two minutes once you know the routine.

Any free chromatic tuner app works. Sit somewhere quiet, play one string at a time and let it ring.
If the needle sits left (flat), tighten the string slightly. If it sits right (sharp), loosen it. Always finish by tuning up to the note — it holds better.
Turn the tuning peg a little, pluck, check. Big twists are how strings snap. If you're not sure which way a peg goes, turn it gently and watch the needle.
New strings stretch for the first few days, and temperature changes affect them too. Retuning every time you play is completely normal.
Five-minute takeaway: Make tuning the first minute of every session. It doubles as a warm-up for your ears.
